A Clear View

The NZ Herald's editorial today is a telling example of the ideology that is driving national standards. It is galling to read the sweeping generalizations (parents like league tables) and bald play to market driven education (ultimately the customer is always right). Lets be very clear. Education is not a commodity that can be traded by making it as palatable to the consumer as possible. A principled response

It is interesting to note the comments of Geoff Lovegrove, Editor of the NZPF comment in the latest New Zealand Principal magazine. He points to the significant reaction to the Minister's views on league tables. In particular the growing view that if there are no safeguards on school achievement data to stop league tables being published, then principals will simply not forward this data to any central database.
