The testing regime and league tables in the UK do not contribute to the building blocks of learning - curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Teachers focus on test results and spend little time talking about the whole child and their learning journey. The UK experience shows that a National Standards style regime does improve learning or inspire teachers.
